Abstract

This capstone project focused on reducing inefficiencies in a mid-volume production facility’s labeling and shipping workflow. The project applied the DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) to identify bottlenecks, validate causes, and implement sustainable improvements. Initial time studies revealed that manual labeling tasks consumed over 420 minutes daily, accounting for 78% of total process time. Other problems included label waste (10–15%), transport delays, and manual weight entry, leading to delays and reduced throughput. By applying Lean Six Sigma tools including SIPOC, FMEA, Pareto charts, and pilot testing he project proposed automation, digital data capture, and layout redesign. A pilot test reduced labeling time by 71%, decreased label waste to under 5%, and increased daily output from 190– 207 to over 220 orders.
